Preparing for Practice
Wear comfortable clothes for ease of movement, and be casual. One of my clients has a wardrobe of pajama sets that she wears to our workouts. I bring any other needed equipment. Each session is different, depending on your needs and on the particular conditions unfolding for you on that particular day. You are encouraged to simply be yourself, however you are most comfortable.
Tip: One-on-one practice with an instructor is the best way to experience the benefits of Gabriel’s Yoga Therapy. However, group sessions are also available if that better suits your budget. Group sessions are kept small so that each participant receives as much one-on-one support from the instructor as possible. For more information, see Class Schedule.
One-on-One Practice
New clients start with an introductory course of three sessions. This allows you and your instructor time to identify any initial challenges or goals you may have, to experiment with various adaptations, and to evaluate how you felt physically, mentally, and emotionally between sessions. If you are working with other providers such as chiropractors, acupuncturists, or massage therapists, your instructor will develop a complementary program.
A session usually lasts about 60 to 75 minutes at your home, office, or other location — we can even work outside when weather permits. The 10 principles provide a consistent foundation, while your preferences and goals help shape each session in a creative and engaging way.
- Strength training and interval training exercises blend with yoga poses to shape lean muscles and boost metabolism.
- Stability balls enhance core conditioning and balance.
- Functional fitness exercises allow current structural or muscle stressors to be transformed into greater lifestyle movement.
- Restorative poses rejuvenate body and mind while increasing vitality and self-awareness.
